Default State bred

I know that Kybred is considered the top state bred and Ca,NY and Fla vieing for second. What state realy offers the best perks to lure breeding operations to there state?

New Jersey is over the top on their breeding incentives.. Giving away crazy money to promote the program. Without the figures in front of me, I'd say NJ..

PA is up there also.. NJ is great, Louisiana is pretty good, West Virginia also and New Mexico. NY has a real good breeders/owners incentive also.

I did a project about this two years ago for my "big project" in the RTIP.. I'll have to look up the results but I remember NY, PA, NM and NJ being very lucrative.

I did a little study on this last year (leaving out the major breeding states of Ky and Fla), and from a perspective of money prospects (i.e., MSW, allowance, statebred stakes, other incentives) and the quality of animal you need to win said purses, New Jersey is far and away the best.

The states I studied and what I found:
1) New Jersey
2) Louisiana
3) New York
4) California
5) Texas
6) West Virginia
7) Pennsylvania
8) Maryland

The biggest issue that NJ has is no year round racing program. There is no where to run a Jbred from December to May.

From a standing stallion perspective, outside of KY, I feel it tails off considerably. The biggest drawback to states like WV, NJ, NM is there isn't much to breed your mare back to. MD and PA have done well in recent years to draw some nice stallions, LA probably a notch below.

NY, FL, and CA are probably still the tops, with NY offering probably the best mix of breeder awards / quality stallions

They fit in with the inner track NY-breds just fine..

I agree with the NJ-bred answer. Owning an NJB is more profitable than selling heroin, and only half as degrading.

Fair point... maybe that's a good thing though in some cases?

Although NJ does not offere year round racing, what they have in fact done is extend the time frame -- both before and after any NJ meet -- in order to collect the NJ Bred bonus money.

Nominee as post-of-the-year..

And to address Chuck's point about no winter racing in the Garden State, I believe that NJ ammended the program in the last 6 months to include NY performance in their awards...

Not saying I know but I thouvht Delta Downs with the money from slots were the biggest purse improvement.

I hope I never bet Evageline Downs again for the rest of my life.

Actually AE, if you can sift through all the sludge in those Evangeline claiming races, you can make huge $$$$ there.

I guess in reality if you have a statebred in any state other than KY or FL and they are a legit racehorse you will be in great shape. The problem is that legit horses coming out of statebred programs are few and far between.

let me clarify. I had two 20-1 shots come in 1 - 2 over the favorite. The screen goes to odds for like 10 minutes and the next thing you know they are putting the favorite that clearly no mistake about it ran 3rd. The winner was a length ahead and the place horse was a head in front of the favorite. They cut to the winner's circle. Everyone is laughing like something was funny. I sat there with my friend and waited to see a photo. After a replay of the race that clearly showed my horses in front of the favorite they finally posted the photo. it was very quick but the favorite ran third in the photo as well.

I wrote to Evageline Downs and asked what was going on. Their reply was blank with a worm virus attached. I wrote Equibase and asked them about the order of finish and all I got was that it was correct. One of them lies and the other one swears to it.?

I saved the ticket for long time as a reminder - the ink faded over time but my memory is clear.

I will NEVER put my money on a Vaseline Downs race again.

That sounds as shady as male babysitters...

I've always wondered if there are actual patrons at Evageline...it seems like the most undesirable spot on dark nights...just seems like a night track open for the benefits of the true degenerates. Which is not to be confused with Los Alamitos, which seems to only run so that TVG can say they have ONE exclusive track now a days
