Default How young is too young to wager?

So what did you guys do in college.....party it up?? Or spend Friday nights holed up in your bedroom studying the Racing Form lol

In California the minimum age is 18. I'm in my 20s and I feel a little out of place sometimes because everyone at any racetrack or simulcast facility seems to be a lot older.

i have been going to the track since I was 3 yrs old with my father. I am now 24 and like you spend friday nights capping the races. Of course I cant live off of capping the races alone so thats why I went to college. But If you do your capping right then it can surely help a starving college student to pay some of the tuition.

I started reading handicapping books to keep me sharp and informed on different handicapping angles. I recommend reading Handicapping 101 as your first read. My best advice to you is to not overdue it by betting everything you see. BE SELECTIVE!! Pick 3's and Pick 4's are the real money and cap well in advance before you make your wagers. I wish you best of luck

I know how you feel. I've been betting regularly since I was 16, so I've pretty much always been the youngest guy in the place by far.

I have been going to the track almost my entire life. I used to go to the track with my mother and father ever Saturday when I was little. I got out of it when I went to college. Then in 1995 Hoosier Park got thoroughbreds and that lit the fire in my belly again. Been into ever since.

Pops used to get me out of school early to make post time. 7-8th grade. He made my bets for me. I think I started making my own at about 16.

I'm wondering if you were all also named at the track.

Boy...there's some good ones there.

Yup....nothing like underage gambling, drinking and skirt chasing. The track prepares one for life really well.

My dad started to take me to the track at about age of 12-13. He used to make $3 WP on each race of the track we were at. Usually Philly, Penn and Delaware. When I was 16 I could make bets and they usually never questioned me. The greatest thing now is my dad and I usually go to Delaware Park every Sat. or Sun. throughout the meet. My dad and I don't agree on somethings, but the track we always agree on.

started going to the track when I was about 6 years old with my mom, dad, and brother who was 10 at the time. We would sit down and have dinner, and why they made bets me and my brother would walk around picking up tickets. When things were slow and my dad was at work, he would check the results in the paper and go through the stack of tickets we had picked up. It paid off one time in a big way, as in my stack of tickets there was a $2,000+ Superfecta winner that a person had thrown down becauses it paid the "all" and they were too stupid to check it out.

I tell my dad he owes me half, and he pretty much tells me to go f myself. lol
