![]() I did a search but maybe I missed it. Rumor has it he's been pulled from the Lanes End website because they found out a couple weeks ago that he has fertility issues. Was he a cryptorchid by any chance? If anybody knows what's gonna happen to him I'm curious to know.

Imagine the inconvenience for the four owners whose mares were going to be bred to him this Spring. All that scrambling around to rebook them.... A shame. |

![]() Looks like he's in hiding, not on the roster, but they still maintain a page for him.

![]() Got some more, albeit vague, info regarding Alumni Hall. Here's what someone said on another message board:
"Yeah, I had a mare booked to AH and Lanes End called to say that he "hasnt' adjusted to stallion life". I've had to scramble to find an alternate stallion for the mare." Rather curious choice of words eh? Not sure that adjusting to stallion life means gaining the ability to produce sperm so is it a problem with jumping the mares? Could it be that he's borderline sterile and they're trying some things? Still like I said how does that qualify as 'adjusting to stallion life' unless they're trying to hide it. |

![]() he might be reluctant to breed, it happens. war emblem is a prime example, an extreme one as well, of a stud not wanting to do his new job.
these horses are reprimanded any time they show any studdish behavior the entire time they're in training. so he has to unlearn about four years of being told NO.

![]() ah, success at last finding this thread.
just saw an update on alumni hall on bloodhorse, and thought i'd drag this thread back to page one. he refused to cover mares-no fertility issues, just won't do the deed--ala war emblem i suppose. so now, a new career--he's learning to be a steeplechaser. they didn't geld him, so they're hoping eventually he'll figure THAT out. meantime, he and ten cents a shine (anyone remember him??) are learning new things. good luck to both of them.

Here was his performance that day: "TEN CENTS A SHINE, reserved after the start and maneuvered towards the inside, raced three or four wide while outrun for seven furlongs, eased out to make a run 10 wide into the stretch and offered a mild gain." Who could forget such a performance!!! |

![]() Maybe they should just get the mares the book "Hes just not that into you".lol But of all things steeple chasing? I am not a big fan. The races across the pond are just horrible, going 4 miles, over jumps and maybe 3-4 out of 15 finish the course. Not my cup of tea so to speak

![]() Tom Fool was reluctant to cover mares initially, probably for the same reason as postulated earlier - he was told NO GIRLS for so long that he had to unlearn the lesson. His Felinity, Cougar II, had control issues; he wasn't going to cover a mare with all those PEOPLE around, putting their hands on his, ahem, member to guide it. Once the people got wise and let him do it HIS way, he covered them fine.
There is an amusing story in Federico Tesio's memoirs about a stallion of his who was sold to the Italian remount and wouldn't cover his mares. Tesio's solution displayed some cute equine psychology. (Tesio bred Nearco and Ribot, among others). |
