I really believe that the stipends to the TB industry from the casinos/racinos are only temporary. As the casinos/racinos become stronger and can bribe more politicians it's only a matter of time before the tracks are cut outta the picture entirely.
Why even have a track when you can close the track and expand the casino on the grounds -- put in more slot machines -- more parking -- more restaurants -- and make much more per square foot than you ever could from having a track on the grounds? Corporations do the thing all the time -- instead of floating a failing division they just cut it loose. Close it down.
Look at GP -- more geared to slots. Stronach hit the nail on the head despite the criticism. It is the way of the future for all racinos to emphasize the casino aspect and de-emphasize the racing aspect. It's all about the money.
I go to the track and lose $500 and the track makes about $100. My wife loses $500 and the casino makes $500. Figure it out.
