Default BELMONT: Fri., 9/22

Thursday was a blase' day at Belmont, and our focus on ATRAB turned to the utterly joyful atmosphere surrounding pacing's Little Brown Jug. The Delaware County (OH) Fairgrounds teemed with more than 50,000 fans on a glorious first day of autumn, and were treated to huge prices and a Jug victory by Ontario-bred Mr. Feelgood. In the 3rd elimination before the finale, Texas Shootout exploded on the tote at 55-1... We had call-ins on the show live from suburban Columbus from "Steve" who really provided great coverage that we hope you enjoyed!

Two dozen stakes dot the thoroughbred landscape Saturday, and we'll cover a majority of them on "At the Races and Beyond" Friday afternoon... Belmont, Monmouth, Calder and Louisiana Downs feature multi-feature cards, with added-money juvenile events taking an important spot on the docket nearly everywhere. In the meantime, a rather trickt Belmont card beckons for Friday... Thursday's results and comments are below the picks..

RESULTS -- BELMONT, 9/21/06

4th: MDN CLM, 6f (P6, P3)

Early scratch of Bird's Up and pair of gate scratches devastate a race that was lousy to begin with.. 2nd choice La Mer gets up and starts the P6 play off well as even money Forest Star barely gets involved.

1. #2 Forest Star 3-1 4th @ 1-1
2. #7 La Mer 12-1 WON @ 6-1
A. #5 Preacher's Tale 4-1 SCRATCHED
B. #8 Karakorum Karen 8-1 3rd @ 1-1

5th: CLM/N2L, 6f (P3, Grand Slam)

P6 quest is dashed when Swinging Maria, whom we tried to beat, wears down 'Tribe' and holds off 'Judy'..

1. #4 Kip Kelly 7-2 7th @ 6-1
2. #6 Secret Tribe 6-1 3rd @ 4-1
A. #3 Two Turn Halo 4-1 5th @ 10-1
B. #8 Judy Liner S. 10-1 2nd @ 7-1

6th: NYB-MSW, 6f-T (P4, DD)

Best work of the day as on top Defrizz gets his elusive diploma with overlaid Midtown South helping juice the $48 exacta and $153 tri..

1. #3 Defrizz 5-2 WON @ 3-2
2. #6 Dubliner 3-1 3rd @ 7-2
A. #5 Midtown South 6-1 2nd @ 12-1
B. #11 Ty's Ridge 9-2 4th @ 5-2

7th: OC/N1X, 1m (P3)

Logical 2nd/3rd choices hook for decent $28 exacta.. Considering it was a 6 horse field, and that the top three choice (Diamond Spirit 3rd @ 2-1) ran 3-2-1, the $50 trifecta was a VERY generous payout..

1. #5 Zooming By 8-1 6th @ 8-1
2. #3 Altesse 5-2 2nd @ 5-2
3. #2 Bella Fortuna 3-1 WON @ 7-2

8th: The Graceful Darcy, $65,000, 3yo fillies, 7f-T (Superfecta, DD)

Frankel's Citronnade gets up in a quality overnight. Pletcher's Somethingaboutbetty, who we were trying to keep out of the money, is 2nd. And we doubt Original Spin will be seen on the grass again any time soon..

1. #2 Khalila 4-1 5th @ 3-1
2. #7 Original Spin 6-1 10th @ 13-2
A. #1 Citronnade 6-1 WON @ 11-2
B. #8 Better Now 8-1 6th @ 10-1

LONGSHOT ALERT/SUPER ADD-IN: #2 Ok to Pay 15-1 7th @ 10-1

9th: OC/N2X, 6f-IT (Superfecta)

Metro Meteor, scratched out of Wednesday's feature for this, gets off at a nice price and helps ignite a big set of mutuels when 31-1 Goldberg shipper Pasketty earns the late placement. Exotics come back $250 (EX), $1,260 (TR) and $6,400 (SU) respectively..

1. #5 Bold Decision 5-1 3rd @ 6-1
2. #1a Metro Meteor 7-2 WON @ 5-1
A. #6 No Parole 20-1 10th @ 16-1
B. #10 Seeking the Glory 8-1 5th @ 20-1

LONGSHOT ALERT/SUPER ADD-IN: #4 International Cat 15-1 6th @ 26-1

<$100 Pick Six Play:

4: 2-7
5: 3-4-6
6: 3
7: 3-5
8: 1-2-7-8
