Default Pimlico cuts racing days

http://wbal.com/apps/news/templates/...22917&zoneid=3

Looks like Pimlico will only run 20 days this spring, closing a week after the Preakness Day card.

Frankly, I'm surprised they will run those 4 cards after the Preakness.

I guess I'll start looking at the Delaware Park book earlier this year......

I would venture to guess that a lot of the MD guys who havent already relocated to Delaware or Philly would start considering that?

Here's the problem a lot of trainers will run into - if they give up their stalls at Lau/Bowie and relocate to Delpark, then Delpark expects those stalls to be occupied until the end of their meet in Nov. If the MD'ers ship their stable back to Lau/Bowie in Sept when the fall meet begins, then Delpark won't give them stalls next year. And if they don't fill the stalls at Lau/Bowie, then MD gets pissed and gives your stalls away.

Catch -22....

Why wouldn't they just go somewhere with year-round racing and better purses than Maryland? WV or PA.

Yeah but the trainers who take their stalls are more than likely running bigger donkeys than the trainers that left.

Guess it comes down to a willingness to relocate your home and family.

Stalls at Charles Town are tough to come by. Have been for quite a while. Not sure about availability at Philly but it could be a problem there too.

As always, it's a matter of choice......

But with Delaware being open year round for training doesnt that give a guy a better option? He can stay year round at Delaware and ship to Philly or where ever in the months when Delaware isnt open. Before Delaware went year round training i could see a problem with finding stalls after their meet ends but not anymore.

It's not like Delaware to Laurel or Baltimore are long ships.

Indeed it does! FWIW - Delpark charges a daily fee for their stalls when they aren't racing.

If you are stabled at Delpark year-round, I don't think you want the expense of vanning to MD to run for crappy purses. But, like you said, it does open up running at Philly for nice purses if you can't get stalls there.

Hell all the track charge for stalls now in the off season. One will get slick soon and try to charge during the meet.
and if you think MD purses are crappy try TP.
