That story may need some updating, as Steve mentioned over on the selections board:

FYI.. Re: the DMR signal on Xpressbet.. Restricted as of now in California, Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Virginia, Washington and Wyoming. ...

Sounds like TVG is looking to be able to carry some of the TrackNet signals in exchange for letting the Del Mar signal out. Doesn't seem like an insane request, but as a bettor this whole ADW thing seems insanely counterproductive.

While I abhor exclusive agreements, there are two partners in any agreement. Both TVG and the tracks are to blame.

I'm not defending TVG in general but I don't see how they are the devil in this one. They weren't the ones who started the whole " exclusivity fight ", that would be the other side I believe, and now they are protecting a valuable asset they own. It's business.

Not trying to be a wiseguy, but this is how time perverts people's thinking. Look back to when this started.....the Magna/Twinspires group was the instigator of the exclusivity demands but now people are blaming TVG.

Believe me, I am not trying to defend TVG, but it is important to remember how this started.

Of course it's lousy for the bettor, that goes without saying, but that doesn't mean the facts should be distorted.

I heard a talk last month by John Pappas, the Executive Director of the Poker Players Alliance. This guy seems to know how to get stuff done, and how to really stand up for the poker players. Until horseplayers get a group such as this together and make a stand, they will always be the ones screwed in deals such as this.

i agree, I think a line was crossed when you have a group holding the Kentucky derby hostage. it became warfare at that point.

I think TVG actually started this war when they walked away from CDI negotiations in February of 2007, based on exclusivity agreements. Because I was going to be shut out of my own track just to watch on TV, ( I have Directv, now forced to have both Direct and Dish) I contacted CDI and spoke with a senior VP. To my understanding CDI was going to share thier signal with both TVG and HRTV, ending exclusivity, but TVG would have no part of it and walked away. So CDI started the process of creating ADW sites, etc. and then did join in with the exclusivity war by withholding the derby. I think it was just a stab back at TVG, but who knows.
The whole thing is ridiculous and ludicrous, but I do think TVG is a huge culprit in the whole thing and fired the first shot.

Here's a link to one of the many articles going back to February 2007, I could probably dig up some of the e-mails from CDI too.

Well, I guess if a senior CDI VP said that's what happened, I guess that's what really happened!! After all, I've heard nothing but glowing comments about CDI management!

Fg Fan is correct you can go back and do a little research (I used Goggle) thats what happened it was on Feb 15th 2007 TVG did suspend Negotations with CDI because it boiled down to they were not going to Resign an Exclusive Agreement with TVG
