So I actually thought Luis Castillo in those years was mis-used being in the #2 hole. He does a good job hitting, and chopping balls to move guys up on base. As a Twins fan I got to see that first hand. But you're mis-using another guy who can steal so many bases by putting him right behind Pierre.
It seems like now with Furcal and Pierre it could be part 2 for that. I'm not sure who you would bat lead-off. Pierre seems the more pure Lead-off guy to me, but it is a close call. But what I'm getting at, is whoever you choose to bat lead-off. Why not move the other guy down to like 7th in the order? A guy in the 7 hole doesn't have to be a run producer in my eyes. That's what 3-6 are for. That way you can get a bonafied decent hitter and baserunner at the bottom of your order.

Furcal deserves to lead off.He has a better on base % because he gets on with both hits n' walks. He seems to take 2nd with ease(one of the most professional base stealers ever....I mean the guy can certainly read a pitcher's move.)Then you have a guy like Pierre slashing the ball for a run -scoring single,or an infield hit. Then you bring up someone to power both runs in,or sacrifice fly Furcal home. This team performs best when Furcal is getting across that plate (manufactured runs.)
