from what i saw, spielberg wasn't happy with the first script. that liam neeson was his first pick (they'd done schindler's list together) but that neeson later said he thought he'd gotten too old to play him. i can't see liam in that role. i thought ddl was perfect for the role, and he did a fabulous job. some on set thought it was eerie, that abe had almost come to life.
when i saw sally field, i said wha? but she worked. brilliant casting job. except for alexander stephens-he was too good looking to play that guy!
