Per Baffert, the reason Silver Charm didn't win the Belmont is that he didn't see Touch Gold coming down the middle of the track so he didn't know to dig in again. I know trainers blow smoke up our rears sometimes, but to say Silver Charm didn't like being passed is an understatement, so I can believe it. He didn't lose from an empty tank from what I saw. Touch Gold deserves a lot of credit though, dealing with that hoof injury from the Preakness. He just didn't win without some bad racing luck for SC.
