TVG will televise it live, and many OTBs simlucast (hub is usually Arlington).
The Arc has been around since 1920. Before WWI, the biggest international race in Europe was the Grosser Preis von Baden, but the French were not about to go to the Enemy Country to prove their horses and so created their own international race. It typically has Derby and Oaks winners from several countries as well as top older horses and mares. For instance, in the 1968 running, Vaguely Noble defeated Sir Ivor (English Derby and 2000 Guineas), Roseliere (French Oaks), La Lagune (English Oaks), Ribero (Irish Derby, English St. Leger), Carmarthen (Prix Ganay), etc. Both Ribot and Sea-Bird made fields full of classic winners look ordinary. Modern transporation has somewhat diluted the fields of late, since the options of the Canadian International and BC Turf provide an alternative to those who are wary of the possibility of very heavy going one often finds at Longchamps this time of year.
