You clearly don't know him as well as you think. Yeah, it's true, he'd be ecstatic over the ten cents he saved (five dollar footlongs are usually $5 each, right?), but there is no way in hell he'd spend $9.90 on food. He'd be totally conflicted for months if he did that.
$9.90 is about his upper limit for paid sex. $5 is about his max for food.
