Derrick Coleman was a talented offensive player who routinely took weeks off of playing with any intensity. CV is a similar player. He is a good scoring big man but doesn't give you much other than that. For $40 million I would want a bit more especially with a team that has some issues in the frontcourt.
If they were signing with a team with a big star who is an undisputed top dog like Kobe or Lebron or a team with a strong head coach like Jackson or Sloan maybe I would feel like they had a chance to be more successful. But Detroit isnt not much better than they were last year with them and that isn't nearly good enough.

Gordon is a defensive liability but i dont think that is so much the case with CV. Coleman was a head case. CV might be just young. The 40 million thing is deceptive because it works out to a reasonable yearly cap hit for a guy that will be in your 8 man rotation for sure. A very good signing in my opinion any way you cut it.
Giving Gordon that kind of money could come back to hurt especially if you don't know what you are doing with Hamilton. That will be a tough contract to get rid of. The backcourt situation is interesting to say the least.
