I know of a certain horse who has set the Saratoga track record for 5f on the turf three times in the last two years who can't run more than a few times a year becasue of this condition. Actually, it's a wive's tale, but some people believe it. The color of a horse's hooves hasn't been shown to have anything to do with soundness. It's the structure of the hoof that causes problems.
