That's the way it feels to me. I don't get the feeling that this kid would have done something like that on his own. Doesn't excuse it one bit. But younger kids often do some very stupid things when led by older ones. We'd expect the 17yo to know better. I don't know for sure that I'd expect the 13yo to. I mean, he knew it was wrong. But, well, I have a 13yo son and I know how stupid they can be. You'd hope that they realize their mistake, take responsibility for it, try to make it right in whatever way they can, and be better people later. When you read some of his comments, especially how he doesn't want to just run away from it and try to act like it never happened because that wouldn't be fair to her, that's a sign of maturity to me. I'd give him a second chance. I do not think my daughter would be any more at risk than she would with some of the other players. And I think I'd absolutely want him as a teammate because he knows he's been given a second chance and is on a thinner rope than others and he's more likely to work hard to justify the support that he's been given. It's not an easy situation by any means but I don't have a problem with Tennessee giving him a shot.
