He looked done in the Whitney to me and I was raked over the coals when I siad that after that race....today, he showed that he is done for sure....A good, class horse - like he was at 3 - doesn't need to have excuses why they fade bad to 7th beaten 9 lengths (in the Whitney)...they just don't...Pletcher had him fit and ready or he wouldn't have run him in there...that was always the target for him, so when he didn't fire there I knew he was probably done.
I have thought all along that he has been fighting some sort of injury - although his connections wouldn't admit it....That is likely the real reason it took him so long to get back to the races this year as a 4-year-old....Something is probably nagging him physically, or maybe he has just lost interest, which is hard for me to believe of a horse that is happy and healthy....Afterall, he is lightly raced for his age and was a late developer last year, so why is he now over the top?...He shouldn't be.....not going to comment what I saw and thought of him when he was training at CD the weeks leading up to the Derby when Pletcher's string was there because it will make some people here on this forum mad and it isn't cool to spread speculation anyway, but it doesn't surpirse me that he is not running well.....
I bet he retires soon....
