I don't really have all day....
But...
* Hard Spun was hindered by a crazy fast early pace. Curlin was hindered by a very rough trip. Any Given Saturday was very wide on the turns and got crushed.
As his main rivals suffered from either being too close to a fast pace - or having very tough trips - Street Sense was placed in a perfect tactical spot saving ground on the rail in 19th position while rating comfortrably well off the destructive pace.
In an act of insanity by Street Sense's jock - Borel never attempted to move him off the rail and tried passing 16 different horses all from the rail.
Because of the sheer stupidity of Nakatani on Liquidity and Bridgmohan on Zanjero - Borel pulled off the most brilliant move I've ever seen - and passed virtually the entire field while unmolested on the rail path. While a virtual traffic jam was occuring in paths 2-to-5.
Street Sense does not cash in on this insanely good fortune with a big margin of victory - instead he shifts in and almost causes Hard Spun to fall down off of his heels - and proceeds to give some slight ground away to Hard Spun late.
It's not so much that he got the most brilliant ride ever - it's that combined with the fact that his main rivals all suffered through far from ideal trips.
