Seneca Falls was in 1849, and the Nineteenth Amendment wasn't until 1920. Equality takes a while. Was is Dr. King who said the arc of history is long, but it bends towards justice?
This is definitely a step back, which stinks. And I wish the gov't would take away the Mormon church's tax exempt status for this, as it sure seems that they were involving themselves in politics in ways that violate that status. Not to mention the gov't could use the tax money.
Antitrust, I'm with you in that it makes no sense to me- discrimination is discrimination, but, unfortunately, a lot of people don't see it that way. A lot of African-Americans are very religious, and the American Christian faith is not particularly open to homosexuality.
Those of you with newly-minted Democrat representatives (or Republican ones who are social liberals), it would be worth writing them and asking them to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act. It was a bad law; one of the worst days work Clinton ever was did signing it, and it needs to go. Time for two more steps forward.
