as much as CONGRESS wants to give you. that's why i shake my head every four years about the presidential elections. all the president can do is ask congress to bring about legislation, tax cuts, increases, etc. it's up to your representatives and senators to work out the details. the president only has veto power over what they send him. he can sign it, or not. just like the president has to ask permission to wage war, for treaty approval, etc. too many people think the president can do far more than he actually can.
i still think we should have term limits in congress, and the president should have line item veto powers.

Technically this is incorrect. The president needs the authority of congress to "declare war". However, the president can recognize a "state of war" and bomb anyone he wants without permission from congress.
