Those that didn't Vos nominate expected Midnight Lute, Abraaj, Benny the Bull, etc. to be there, and of course that's not the way things have turned out.

Two of those horses were already toast before nominations closed. I think what's at play here is a big purse (comparable to the Vosburgh) while remaining in their own age group. None of those horses is proven Grade 1, or even considered at the top of the 3yo sprint division, though they may be up-and-coming. Not to mention they are not all NY-based (the main horse, Desert Key is, was nominated, and seems spotted for action by going here). Didn't Visionaire just light up half of them?
