Back to the original post.

I use to run in road races competitively. I would always think at the beginning of a race when I started out excited but conservative that I was being constrained by my jockey and that the some of the novices that took out like bats out of hell were first timers. They of course would come back to me usually by the end of a half a mile...

My track workouts would clearly involve breezing or hand ridden.

And at the end of a race when it was flat out a struggle to keep pace I would just concentrate on holding form and fighting thru the fatigue. And down the stretch they come...

Gander and some others might know what I am talking about. I think running on your own gives you a great appreciation how athletic horses are.
