The Yankees and Red Sox ticket prices are outrageous and tickets are almost impossible to get without going to a scalper. It is cheaper to go to Baltimore or Tampa and make a weekend out of it than pay $200 a ticket for box seats.
Same thing with certain football and hockey teams. It is very difficult to get a Redskin or Steeler ticket in the home city but pretty easy to go see a game in Atlanta or Buffalo.

Could be, but a majority of the "fans" of opposing teams I see down here are locals.
We have a phenomenon here where fans support the local teams until their bandwagon team comes to town and suddenly they switch colors. I didn't know the dude that sits next to me every week for the Bucs game was really a Cowboys "fan" until the Cowboys came to town and his jersey changed for one week.
