You get a top notch operation when you hire Todd. You get accessability and a trainer that is highly attuned to what's going on. Blaming Todd for the course of this horse is naive, and I'm not doing that, as it is often the owner that forces a more aggressive path. We rarely know what goes on behind the scenes ( and those of us that do are unlikely to repeat them here ).
I don't disagree that smaller outfits, with good trainers, may be more beneficial in certain situations. But, I will disagree with anyone that says Todd Pletcher doesn't run a very good operation. The guy is very smart and he, along with his assistants, know very well what they are doing.
