The latest reports indicate that a total of six people (including the shooter) are dead with I think 15 more injured. As far as I know so far, everybody I know is okay, but it is still possible that some of my students (or former students) are among the injured....or worse.
I don't actually live in DeKalb (I live over an hour away, just outside of Chicago) so I don't know everything that has been going on, but this has been one hell of a crazy day. Appaerntly the shooter was a grad student in the Sociology department. The sociology department shares a building with several departments - including the history department which I am part of. I guess there is a pretty good chance that I rode in an elevator or said "hi" to this guy sometime last year.
This whole thing is just absolutely crazy.
