12/29: CRC Slam III; SA Late P4

Strung solid day of tabs together at Big A Friday only to be left empty in the nightcap when missing Lostritto's plausible Home and Away at 31-1 which produced a $4,800 P4 and single P6 winner of $130,000. Tabbing this winner, as ATR contributor and DRF-YouBet host Andy Serling did, was possible utilizing trip capping methods via the visual evidence of race replays.

Home and Away had shown improved form in her third start from a 2 year layoff for 'Uncle Joe' two starts back on the turf at Belmont. In her prior start to Friday, Home and Away had received a dreadful ride from Herb McCauley that could be crossed out. Against this modest group, Home and Away was an include at the least based on her 2005 effort on the Aqueduct Inner and her increasing fitness. When she received a solid setup, Jose Espinoza took full advantage finding every hole necessary and rally up the rail for a memorable score. While I looked at her handicapping the race and thought her not impossible, not watching the replay of her previous start kept her off the ticket and resulted in missing a big opportunity after the 3 early 'gimmees' in the Quad...

Calder and Santa Anita with stakes-laden P4's today; a pair of OK stakes on the penultimate NY card of 2007 and Sweetnorthernsaint returns to action at Turfway in a 6f comebacker being used as a prep for the Sunshine Millions Classic in January.
