Cribber, means run, run very, very fast as far as you can from them. It is a habit they can pick up from being bored, or even from another horse. They will grab wood, or anything really, with their top teeth and suck wind into their throat. Cribbers are very hard to keep weight on, and it does horrible things to their teeth over time. I have a gelding that picked it up, when he was laid up recovering from a seamoid injury, and 22 yrs later, he still does it. His top teeth are completely worn down to the gum line. Years ago after retiring him from the track and making a rodeo barrel racing horse out of him, he would crib on the side of the horse trailer if you left him tied to long. To me the sound of a horse cribbing is the worst sound in the world!!
