Default 9/19: Belmont (4th-9th)

Highly entertaining Saturday at Belmont this past weekend with spectacle of Green Monkey and 4 straight quality stakes that ended with what may be Rags to Riches last appearence..

It was a weekend for young riders to flash their chops as Eibar Coa displayed some real riding ability steering Tale of Ekati to a Futurity win, and then gave Lear's Princess a brilliant trip. Coa contributed to the West Point filly's victory by suggesting blinkers to Kieran McLaughlin which helped move her from runner-up in her past 2 efforts to Grade I winner.

Alan Garcia continued his strong run which kicked in at Saratoga as he piloted Tagg's Dance Away Capote to laurels in the Noble Damsel and then got Partinglass Stable's Dave (Tagg) a photo score Sunday in the Ashley T. Cole. 19 year old Gabriel Saez visited Belmont with Larry Jones' Proud Spell, and came away with honors in the Matron. The plaudits for Saez from the Midlantic region flow in, with speculation that the youngster could be a star in the making. In addition, Eddie Castro won a pair Sunday at Big Sandy, and has a quiet confidence that earns him mounts from top outfits in the metropolitan area, Florida and for ship-outs. Add in Joe Talamo and Michael Baze on the West Coast and Jose Lezcano wherever he rides, and you get the feeling a whole new generation of top jockeys is clearly emerging.

Action at Belmont Wednesday is quite OK as full fields continue to emerge from P.J. Campo's entry box...
