I realize that most horses in training are on some meds. That being said, the trainers with whom I have dealt, fearful of a potential positive due to withdrawal times, would err on the side of not entering, rather than enter and take their chnaces. I fail to see the difference between "pushing the envelope" and not playing by the rules.
