And the best is that when they do that, it's almost always to something completely benign.
They've managed to highlight something like a horse's career earnings.
Say, in a Mcl10000 race at Hawthorne, a few first-time starters and lightly raced horses with no earnings compete against a horse with a career line something like this

Then they can redboard that one when it finally gets a win at 35-1 after running off the board 10 straight times.
