Some like claimers, some bet only allowance races, others only stakes. A few maiden winners move on to stakes horses, most don't. To have backed that one who does, makes up for all the many who don't. On super bowl day everyone has a 50/50 chance at picking a winner, but how many followed that winner all the way.
