I actually think Winslet will have ZERO shot this year. The movie was loved or hated because of the nature of the film and the ending. The conservative and squeamish views of the majority of Oscar voters are going to be turned off by it, I think.

To me, Mirren is this year's Philip Seymour Hoffman. No chance of losing. She's actually my surest bet.

Actor should be interesting. Forest Whitaker provided the best performance of the year, but if the Academy is going to give an "Oh all right already" award its going to be to Peter O'Toole. Failing health, past his prime, a provactive yet safe plot but a good actor who's a legend but has never won an actor, being robbed at least once...

With the Best Picture race I like your inclusion of Children of Men but im not sure it will have enough momentum. But I just cant see Pan's getting in, even with a few of the pre-cursor's already awarded.

In fact, I think it will even lose Foreign Language to Volver.

The Departed (for the win... not the best movie but has the box office, critics and director all going for it)

and to roundout the category--

Dreamgirls
Babel
Letters
The Queen
And it just occurred to me I didn't list "United 93" which is on more top ten lists than you could shake a stick at. So now I wonder which film I bump off my list to put "United 93" on.

It sucks for me if that gets nominated because I'm just not ready to watch any 9/11 films yet so I'll have to skip a Best Picture nom for the first time in a while. But it'll be nice that a movie starring a bunch of unknowns gets a nod, if it does get one.

I forgot about O'Toole and "Venus"- you may be right about that one. I'll have to see that film soon- I love him.
