I appreciated that he always had time for young fans.

My favorite discussion with him was in 2010 at Monmouth when they upped the purses for that "Million Dollar" meet. Unfortunately they still ran many 5k claiming races with those inflated purses. He was sitting in the backyard between rides(as he did many days!). I asked him how he liked riding in NJ full-time. He said the golf courses are great, especially since he did more of that than actually ride.
