Did I hear right???

On this past Sunday's Trackfacts show on Capital OTB network, Tom Amello
mention that the moderator of this here forum (Steve) will be the special guest on this coming Sunday's show. I guess myself, as well as many others will be tuneing in to hear what Steve has to say and give a plug to this website. I hope Mike (Oracle) gives a call since he loves the network sooooooo much! LOL:D Just kidding Mike and how was L.Falls last weekend?

Kasept 06-19-2006 08:29 PM

Yes.. You heard correctly. I get to sit in with Nick and Tom next Sunday.. I was with my dad yesterday so I didn't hear that... I'm already embarassed!

LOL!! Hi Hick! I have never called that show and don't want to destroy my perfect record. I will watch though!

Gander 06-20-2006 07:50 AM

I have called that show! Nick Kling wasnt too nice to me either. Not sure why. That guy has had a bug up his ass for many years now.

Good luck Steve, maybe I will call in and ask you a doozy!

oracle80 06-20-2006 08:02 AM

Tim a lot of prank callers have called that show in the past. It makes them leery when a guy like you calls up and asks where some old claimers that noone cares about or has seen in years are. LOL!! They probably thought you were a prank caller.

Gander 06-20-2006 08:06 AM

I asked him about Iron Gavel and he got ticked off. Geez, I wasnt being the least bit kidding. I loved that horse.

Nick Kling, aka son of sam.

Tim you are a rare guy to love those claimers and besides, how the heck would they know where an old claimer is? Its not like they put that kind of thing in the publications like they do where someone is standing at stud. Trust me, they thought you were a prank.

I love claimers. I have to. If most of the races you get to watch are claiming races, you gotta learn to love them.

Gander 06-20-2006 09:51 AM

I know Mike. Perhaps this week I will ask a question on a more current claimer, like Albert E.

Pointg5 06-20-2006 09:53 AM

Don't feel bad Gander, I once got made fun of for something that I was correct on by the guy from Turfway Track Talk, idiot hung up on me and then ripped me...He now works for River Downs and just started a new radio show, payback is coming for Fat Boy...

Gander 06-20-2006 09:54 AM

This guy has an attitude Mwindu but he looks like Son of Sam, so I wont be messing with him. Gosh hes scary

Hickory Hill Hoff 06-20-2006 04:26 PM

Gander, I've known Nick for years, In fact we did a public access show on cable T.V. in the Amsterdam area back ten years ago. We got a lot of crank calls and there was no seven-second delay. I agree with Mike, he must have thought you were a crank. As far as attitude, Nick is a easy going guy with a good sense of humor. Not stuffy like many so-called big time handicappers or people involved with horse racing. And looking like "son of sam ", most people who are faces in horse racing aren't that pretty either, myself included! Really, he's a good guy.

Gander 06-20-2006 04:32 PM

I dont doubt hes a good man. I was only kidding around, you have to accept my sense of humor. Sorry if it seemed like an insult, really I didnt mean it that way. I'm sure hes a big teddy bear.

I have listened to this show for years and am very aware of the crank callers, I sympathize with him and Tom for having to deal with it. I was actually quite serious as I know these 2 guys have been following NY racing for 30 years and would know about my old pal Iron Gavel. They were very rude to me on the phone but I can understand why!

And the Son of Sam comment isnt necessarily the worst insult in the world. I've seen a lot worse! He just resembles him a bit.

The funniest one I ever heard on that show went like this:
Caller- "hi, I was down at belmont Park last weekend and heard a rumor, I was wondering if you guys knew anything about it."
Nick- " Go ahead caller what did you hear?"
Caller- " I heard that **** ******(an otb tv guy who used to do a show with Jean edwards), takes it in the ***."
LOL!!! I was rolling around on the floor for hours afterwards. Classic.

Gander 06-20-2006 04:37 PM

LOL! I heard that too. I was dying. That same guy has made a few very funny calls. Best part is the look on Kling's face! LOL!

My favorite line from Son of Sam is when the killer is freaking out in his apt having one of his mental fits and he hears the dog barking and imagines that the dog is speaking to him. He says in that funny voice...

"Shut that dog up"

LOL!!! Tim that had to be the funniest comment i ever heard in my life because the guy could very well have been right about the guy he was saying that about!!! I was laughing for hours and the look on Amello and Klings face was priceless.

Hickory Hill Hoff 06-20-2006 04:52 PM

Gander, that scene in the movie freaked me out when the dog was talking!
We got a lot of crank calls, it was so easy without the delay and very tough to keep from laughing. One caller commented after Jerry Bailey was involved in a spill at the Spa, " Did he break his nuts?" the lead up was so normal you didn't think it was a crank. In this game, you meet all types and a sense of humor is needed to survive.

You guys are giving me some ideas for the payback that I am going to give to old Fat Boy on the River Downs show, I would like to be original, but I could just substitute Fat Boy's name in there, probably won't make the air with the delay though...
