How To Follow Horse Racing
 

im new to the site and am trying to get into the sport of thorobred racing. How do I follow it? Are there any good websites? I really like watching the Triple Crown Races and was wondering how you guys follow it.

There arent any tracks near me that I can go to so thats out of the question.

There are a lot of industry professionals that post on this message board. You'll be surprised at how much you'll learn just by reading. :cool:

can you get TVG on cable? Do you have dish network?

Does you state allow you to get an online betting account? You can check at http://www.brisbet.com.

You can bet and watch horseracing via streaming video. The quality isn't the best and near impossible without broadband.

Nothing holds your interest in a race like investing in the outcome ;)

I would also checking out Kasept's picks on the Selection page. He doesn't just post numbers. When time permits he gives a little explanation for the pick. He also has a radio show on Sirus radio

If you're interested in California horse racing, a great site is www.calracing.com. You can watch live racing and replays from all California tracks there and they have lots of other great info. I keep Derbytrail.com, the Daily Racing Form, Equibase and all tracks web sites bookmarked in my computer. Bloodhorse is also a great source of info... welcome to the board!

Seth does a great job of compiling racing news from all over the world into one site. IMO, it's the best all 'round racing site.

The major racing news sites are www.bloodhorse.com and www.thoroughbredtimes.com as well as www.drf.com for news and great handicapping info.

If you can get either TVG or HRTV or a local OTB TV channel (in NYC and Albany NY, for example) start watching races. Sites like this one are a great place to ask questions about things you see.

I've only been following the sport since 2004 and found a very fun way to get involved is by participating in online contests. They are free and with luck, could win you money. Plus, having a "rooting" interest in a race always makes it better. It may not be too late to join tvgfantasy.com (Derby Trail has a private league too that you can join, PM me and I'll give you the information) DerbyCat is running a contest on this forum for all of the Derby Preps as well and I'm sure she would be happy for another contestant.

just to pile on... if you don't have sirius you can listen to Steve (Kasept) online for free at http://www.attheracesandbeyond.com
and if you sign up for some online wagering sites like xpressbet and youwager they will often let you watch races online for free even if you are not wagering...some of the racetracks as well have their own feed on their websites.

NTRA has a pretty good stakes calendar that lets you know what races are coming up, where you can watch them, and even gives you various articles and sometimes past performances for them:

Certainly a good way to start following it although getting Dish Network with TVG and HRTV is going to go a long way as well. Both channels are available on the base package and I think it starts as low as $29.99 a month.
