Barbaro's Brother

There's an article on MSN with a picture of Barbaro's yearling full brother. Just thought I'd share.

He's got some awfully big shoes to fill, but he looks a lot like him! :)

I thought so too. Even the face markings are close!

It'll be interesting to see how he develops and what he does on the track. But poor horse, he'll probably always be compared to Barbaro!

Most likely he will be. I'd like to think his chances of being a nice colt are pretty good. La Ville Rouge has thrown some nice colts thus yet, so I guess we'll see. :)

And they must really like this combo, because they've got this yearling, she's due to foal another Dynaformer I believe in March and they've decided to send her back again this spring. We're going to end up with a small herd!

I read at the end of the article about Smarty Jones and Afleet Alex. Where are they both now? They are both still alive correct?? I may just be confused, sorry if this sounds stupid.

Both are at stud. Smarty Jones stands at Three Chimneys and Afleet Alex is at Gainesway.

holy crap, bit of white over the same nostril....

he'll get as much press as the green monkey when he steps on the track for the first time.

wonder what they name him? the one due any day should be 'third time's a charm'.

call this guy 'atlas'--bound to carry a lot of weight on his shoulders. lot of people are going to be hoping this guy does well.

I'd call him Formerville. Fits the 3 syllable rule for the derby. LOL :o

they said on Larry king the other night that the brothers would probably be named after some of the other foxhounds in the painting where Barbaro's name came from...smart move on their part not saying what those names are...guarantee if they had, someone would have reserved them with the JC for themselves:rolleyes:

OK, I'll be the first. This is my Derby horse!

Here's the NYTimes article on Barbaro's Baby Brother- a different (and awfully cute) picture of him with it:

He is definately a cutie. He looks too sweet to be a runner, but then again he is still a baby. :)

After reading the article, I could not resist and search on that painting the Jackson's mentioned. They say, one the hounds on the painting was named "Barabro" and the brother will take on the name of another hound from it.

I know nothing about paintings so maybe somebody who does knows or can find out.

I found this: http://www.equisearch.com/art_graphics/eqpater3121/
could also be this one: http://store.encore-editions.com/danh4art95spart.html

I am pretty sure that is the painting. This Pater guy has more hunting paintings I found, but none of them have six hounds in it except for this one.

The only thing is I can't find the names of the dogs on it. If we would see one of them named Barbaro, then we can confirm the brother's name with the remaining 5 others.

Sorry, just really curious to find out the names and find out what to expect what the new little guy's name will be.

I got the impression from that interview that the painting was a family painting and that perhaps the dogs in it had belonged to a family member.

Could be way off, but if that's the case it won't be on the internet.
