Yesterday, did anybody

get spanked like I did? Of course Seek Gold did not help matters but I only cashed one ticket out of 12, a small exacta in the race Spun Sugar was in. Yesterday was rough, very very rough for me. It left a bad taste in my mouth, time for a break from the action for a while.

did anybody out there cash on Seek Gold?

i did NOT have seek gold and got a vicious spanking that started in the first at CD when I had the STRAIGHT SUPER written in PEN on the pp's and DIDN'T BET!
So of course everthing else I bet finished up the track or second in the photo (PD).

Suffolk Shippers 06-18-2006 10:14 AM

I also was torched yesterday. Lots of tickets left on the ground, so to say.
I hit the ALL button in the NTRA Pick4 for the Stephen Foster but only went with Spellbinder and Super Frolic in the last leg, so no go. Missed a few trifectas I had lined up as well.

Did hit a measley $180 Pick 4 at Suffolk, but I still didnt have a good afternoon.

Most of this morning I have been kicking myself cause I wrote this down in my DRF yesterday -

ALL / PD

Did I play it? Of course not. That would have turned $10 into $500, why would I want to attempt something like that lol

Got spanked as well. At three different tracks no less. My horses are all over the place and show slots but I can't get them up for the win. Not good when you are a dyed in the wool win bettor which is what I am.

Gander 06-18-2006 11:11 AM

Nothing wrong with taking a break for a while. There is more to life than burning money at the track. No reason on earth to play this game every weekend, it'll turn your brain to meatloaf if ya let it. I find it much more entertaining playing once a month.

ArlJim78 06-18-2006 11:12 AM

I put up a big doughnut yesterday. Played mainly PK4's but not the right way.
For the NTRA I had three legs but did not use Seek Gold. I singled BB. What a busted up race that was. The NTRA paid I $11K for a buck I believe.

Gander 06-18-2006 11:16 AM

What saved me from even more of a catstrophe was not betting to win because of shorter than should be odds. Most notably Summer Service and Arson Squad. Both should have been 5/1 and were bet down to practically 2/1

Is it me or has the value part of the game gone waaay down in the last 10 years or so?

I'm totally with you on that, Tim.
The "fever" hits some pretty hard. Need to bet every race, and many combos.
The best advice I ever got was, "Wait. Be patient. Watch."
When a race comes up that I think will pay, I bet it. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Otherwise, I watch and learn.
To me, it's the only way to maintain some sanity in this crazy "game".

I wasn't going to bring this up because I know u should never do this, but I need someone to talk sense into me. I was getting killed at the window, and was gonna leave and place a few bets. I loved Perfect Drift, but wasn't sure if PD was good for the win. I decided to do a 1 dollar exacta PD/all and another 1 dollar exacta all/PD. I cancelled because all I could see was a PD, BB, and BH finish which was chalky. I cancelled those two bets and put 40 bucks total to win on Perfect Drift only to get an empty feeling inside, it sucks!

See I think you and I "might" share a similar problem. I am catching myself betting scared, in other words, conservative. I swear to you I wrote in my DRF yesterday All / PD. But, I did not want to put $10 of my $100 budget in that bet, but felt it had a legit chance. So instead I boxed 4 horses in an exacta and put that $10 on West Virginia. Sooner or later I am going to quit over - analyzing and just go with my gut instinct. That is why I am going on another Horse Vacation for a while. I am burned out after yesterday.

Don't feel bad guys. I did horrible yesterday too. I was hitting every race last weekend and bombed this weekend. Go figure. Oh well. That's how it goes sometimes. :o

I'll be the first one to admit I got a grade 1 ass whipping yesterday. It happens, and you move on.
I've lost enough photos this week and run 2nd enough times to wanna kick the dog and drink a pint of Jack Daniels. Tough damn week. But we can bail out out for the tough week right here at Hollywood. We have a pick-6 live for 4 dollars(twice, we scratched into the 5 twice in the 4th leg and hit it) if we catch our single in the next race. We have 6 horses in the last race. So I guess one time has the chance to pay for all. Lets go Pval, boot just one more horse home this weekend and we get back into black ink!!!

I don't think anyone made anything yesterday. I knew I was in trouble when Bright Abundance got nosed out by that $43 horse who looked absolutely dead in midstretch.

oracle80 06-18-2006 06:52 PM

That was just brutal wasnt it?

That was a good one. I still don't know how that horse got his nose in front.
That was a "David Copperfield' finish because it had to have involve smoke and mirrors.

I've found that the big race days I don't do well most of the time. Yesterday I did have Dixie Meister at 14.00 and Flying bearcat at 15.40 with straight win bets to make a nice recovery. Love the big race days but I have to watch and pick the spots.

You dont want to know the pain that photo cost me. I lost the win bet, the exacta...I was rooting so hard for the End is Clear and Innseattle not to win the last race, had either of them won that, I would have had a $4 pick 4 had Bright Abundance gotten that photo.
