Racing Dispatch Derby Poll Released

Nobiz Like Shobiz, the lightly raced winner of the Remsen Stakes, topped the initial Racing Dispatch Derby Poll, finishing ahead of Eclipse Award winner Street Sense by just one point in the ranking of the 3-year-old crop.

In its inaugural season, The Racing Dispatch Derby Poll is the consensus opinion of a wide array of horse racing journalists, media personalities and handicappers who ranked their top 20 horses.

Steve Byk of DerbyTrail.com is one of the voters. Thanks Steve!

Who is Lawrence The Roman?

blackthroatedwind 01-23-2007 09:30 PM

What am I....chopped liver? No mention?

I'm gonna cry. Of course, I'm not sure I want to be on any list that CJ is on.

You really think you have a shot at winning the Derby this year?

I figure my chances are similar to Sir Greeley's chances of winning the Met.

But not quite as good as his chances of winning the Carter.

I may not look it but I'm a very strong finisher.

If Giacomo can win the Derby......

Sorry blackthroat! We've got you in now, mix-up on our end.

Great Hunter is one that has the 3 syllable name required by 90% of all Derby Winners

Too late...the damage has been done. To be considered lower than CJ is something I will never live down.

Interesting. I know people that handicap the Derby based upon names... "stupid" or "crazy" or "non-traditional" names, they say, do not win the Derby. Based on this logic, Nobiz Like Shobiz is in trouble.

It is a position rarely occupied by anyone.

What is with this "independent handicapper" stuff? Surely you can do better than that. How about "PaceFigures.com consultant"?

Crap, forgot about the three syllable name thing. Monarchos, War Emblem, Funny Cide, Smarty Jones, Giacomo, Barbaro. We haven't had a non three syllable Derby winner since 2000!!!!

We've had three non-three syllable winners since 1990. There goes Hard Spun. Dangit!
