Poly for Belmont?

It sounds like the Belmont surface is being questioned. Pletcher lost a really nice one, Venetian Sunset to injury in the morning. It sounds like trainers are pushing this poly thing everywhere.

He was euthanized after a workout on the friggin dirt. as far as the bidding goes, imo no group has a chance to win the bid without a commitment to retrofit all 3 tracks plus their training tracks with a synthetic surface.

Was it really Venietian Sunset? JJ keeps saying it was a two year old on ATRAB.

Can someone explain....?

Why don't they just invest in the equipment to uniformly keep the dirt track "levened" or non-compacted enough to allow for a soft surface and to prevent ridiculous bias's

I mean we have equipment that can grind up asphalt, surely we could create equipment that would scrape 6 inches of dirt, spit it out the back, and then roll the surface with a uniform weight to start each day's races with a clean slate. Then if it is hot, cold, rainy, everyone take their shot, but we would start each day with a uniform surface.

Big Sandy ... or Big Poly?

Somehow ... Big Poly just doesn't sound right ... sounds like some monster parrot.

Just on aesthetics alone .. it's Big Sandy.

Just like Goldilocks ... too soft is no good either ... it leads to tendon injuries which are just as career-ending as fractures.

Getting it "just right" is only for fairy tales ... in the real world it's nearly impossible.

So you are for just leaving it as dirt, Bold Brooklynite? I don't think it makes much sense to just change one or tow tracks they should change them all or just leave all them alone.

I'm basically disinterested as to which way they go surfacewise ... all I'm saying is not to expect some miraculous solution.

As Goldilocks instructed us in our distant yoot ... too soft is just as bad as too hard ... and getting it "just right" ... and keeping it that way ... is virtually impossible.

then you are denying the significant increase in safety the synthetic surface at Turfway has produced. you are entitled to your opinion but the facts speak way different, bud.
