I wasn't going to post about this.
I've been very "bummed" since last week when Boubon Streettune spontaneously aborted the Best of Luck foal she was carrying. I kept looking for reasons, as she has already foaled three nice foals.
Sure, I figured this kind of stuff happens, especially with critters as fragile as thoroughbreds. Still, it hit me pretty hard.
I had prepaid the stud fee, all the costs of keeping her, and she was only two months away from the day.
She's still a nice mare. I intend to breed her again, and the vet made sure she's ok. She's fine. That was my main concern.
Yet it seems to me that something else was happening.

Be careful, all females! Endocrine disruption due to environmental causes might be something to consider. Eat organic (Bourbon did).

wayne, I'm very sorry to hear that your mare slipped...it's really hard when they are that far along:(
interesting article...just be careful reading too much into your own mares situation...these things DO just happen sometimes you know.

Yes, they're a lot like "family".
Bourbon Streettune is ok. This kind of thing happens.
I'll be booking her to a High Cliff stallion (nybreds.com).
All the others are growing like weeds.
Life is filled with the "good and the bad".
Like most folks that go to the track, when the "bad" happens, it's not about looking at the race that ya just lost on, it's about looking at the rest of the card.
