Jockey's have been barred before. I know nothing about Douglas and have no insight into this.

without speculating what Rene did...what are some past fractions thay have gotten jockeys barred? Will the jockeys guild step in and negotiate, meaning have they done something like that in the past?

I have no idea. Anything would be speculation on my part and I don't want to do that.

fair enough...understandable..

it's awful IMO that the track would bar him publicly then refuse to say why, it always leads to speculation and gossip.

I'm sure douglas does know...I just think it's low for the track to announce the ban without stating the reason for the ban. thats all.

I agree...total BS...give the reasoning, or don't make the announcement at all.

t3b ,,its your birthday..go out....douglas is out...

blackthroatedwind 12-15-2006 06:40 PM

To be fair, they may not have made an announcement, the story may have spread causing Mike Welsch to investigate.

I'm not saying that's the case but these stories make their way around the racetrack in a hurry. I imagine the reason will be out very shortly.

In the recent past, Calder "ruled off" another jockey in the same manner. Apparantly it prevents the jockey from obtaining legal counsel in order to get an appeal on a stewards ruling. If I remember the details correctly, the other jockey that was ruled off in this manner did not perservere with his mount, thereby causing the order of finish to obviously be different.
Reading the charts (Douglas' mounts) for the past 4-5 days may shed some light on the facts.
I don't feel that Calder does this without some merit.

Doesn't make sense. He wins the 8th and is kicked out before the 9th. Fight in jocks room? Winning tickets or batteries falling out of the silks, visa problems?

Weird... he was the king of Calder when I worked there back in the early 90s, even winning seven on a day once. He's had a very rough patch recently, what with his brother dying of an overdose and his father battling illness. I can't imagine what he's done to cause Calder to do this, but if I know Ken Dunn it's not something to snivel at. And I'd go so far as to say it's got little to do with any kind of riding infraction as the races are governed by the FL Dept of Pari-Mutuel Wagering and Calder has to follow their procedures first.

It'll be interesting to see what shakes out in the next few days...
