No More TVG For Me

I had Adelphia Digital Cable for a long time but they were recently bought by Time Warner Cable. Time Warner is still carrying TVG right now for the Adelphia customers, but they say that they don't have a contract with TVG and they will be discontinuing it starting January 9th. I can't believe it. I have called and complained to both TVG and Time Warner. I hope they can make a deal before that date comes. I can't believe that I'm not going to have TVG any more.

Is anyone here on the same boat as me? If you are, please send e-mails and make phone calls to both Time Warner and TVG. Maybe if they get enough complaints they will work out ther differences and make a deal.

I still shake my head everytime I hear a ""cable company cant give you a channel"".. I have had (old name primestar) directv for over 10 years now. Just like the NFL network, how can a cable company NOT give you that... Opps I forgot it comes to $$$$$$$$$.. Its amazing they run a cable to your house, you send a check every month and THEY tell you what you can watch or NOT watch. Or the best is.. ""we dont have a channel for that, and we would have to TAKE off a channel."" If everyone just stopped cable for ONE month, I wonder HOW fast they would change ? These cable owners are making a fortune , and could care less about each homeowner.

do you at least get HRTV? I used to get it, and along with midwest fox affilates used to carry 2 hours of it. But its all gone.

do what normal folk do, go to the racetrack. if you cant make it during the week, dont follow and limit your experiences to the weekend. you can live without tvg. take a few deep breaths. everythings going to be okay.

then why the need to watch on tvg? not understanding? why would you want to watch racing if you are already there? or is rupert a jockey?

Because there are more then California tracks out there, and TVG brings it all to you in one swoop.

Thanks for the link Scuds, I think I am going to change, it looks like it might be a little cheaper than Digital Cable, plus I get TVG, HRTV, NFL Network, and ESPNU. I will have to check with TW to see what it will do to my internet bill, but I will likely change.

Make sure you have a south viewing point as the dish needs to be pointed that way....It is also negative when you get weather like you are accustom to in the spring/winter because the picture will 'square' up......

slotdirt 12-14-2006 10:39 AM

I moved and don't have a clear view of the southern sky anymore. Thusly, no more TVG. At least there's always Rosecroft.

That could be a deal breaker, I am not putting one of those things on the front of my house, I guess I'll have to let them take a look and see if it can go around back...

I've been hounding Brighthouse for a year now. They are great for everything else. But absolutely NO horse racing. It may be time to switch to the dish.

I know Verizon fiber optic carries both TVG and RHTV but it's not available in my area yet.

disappearingdan_akaplaya 12-14-2006 11:44 AM

i actually got ridda the dish a few months back and switched to comcast since they hada deal of 99.99 per month for the cable, cable internet and unlimited long distance phone service, that and the fact i was tired of my dish going out every single time the weather got a little bad. i had tvg and hrtv on the dish and now only have tvg and had to pay a little extra for it, hrtv isnt offered by comcast but fukk dat channel and fukk stronach anyways

I'm actually not out there nearly that often. I pretty much only go if we have a horse running. Once in a great while, I go out in the morning to watch our horses train.

But that's irrelevant any way. I'm in the business and I obviously need to be able to watch the races all over the country. The only way I come up with horses to buy privately is from scouting that I do by watching races on television. Over 90% of the horse that we've tried to buyhave been horses that I spotted back East on TVG.

It would be very hard for me to get a dish where I live. I live in a high-rise condominium and I face North. They would have to put the dish on top of the building. The board of directors would have to approve it. It would be a huge deal. I know that a group of homeowners here had considered it just recently, but there were so many issues that they didn't end up doing it. I think the cost was going to be very high too. The wiring is supposedly very complex.

I haven't totally ruled it out. I need to look into it further but it sounds like it would be a huge hassle and may even cost several thousand dollars.

I might be able to get Dish Networks. I just called one of their distributors and told him the situation at my building. He seemed to think we could do it and it wouldn't be all that expensive. He said the initial set-up may not be nearly as expensive as I thought. He said that even worst case scenario he didn't think it would cost more than $1,000 or so.

They(Verizon) put a massive box in my front yard and have been hounding me to switch. Ugly ass thing is an eyesore. Also cut my water line while installing it. "Oops. Sorry. We'll get it fixed as soon as we can" was all I got out of the only one that spoke broken English.

Been with DirecTV for over 10 years and don't plan to switch unless they lose the NFL package. What TVG doesn't cover, I can watch on the internet.
