About the analysis:

The Orange County Register reviewed California Horse Racing Board documents dating back to the 1990s. These included investigative reports, drug test analyses, ruling reports, memos, meeting minutes and hearing transcripts.

Based on these records, we built a database that included every drug violation in California since 2000.

Next, we cross-referenced the drug violation cases with Equibase, a commercial racing data site that includes the amount of money wagered on every race in the United States dating back to 1999.

That's how we determined that more than $268 million has been wagered on tainted California races since 2000.

To compare California to other states, we reviewed thousands of pages of documents from 21 other states.

We were able to compare the number of tests conducted and the violation rates in each of these states.

We also interviewed racing officials, owners, trainers, lab directors and other industry veterans from California and 15 other states and several national organizations.

I put in a couple of trainers names in the serch area and didnt get a responce , do you have to enter a specific horse in the seach or can yopu somehow just use atrainers name.

The blood doping agent E.P.O. wasn't important to test for until just recently? LOL..wasn't this the stuff that the Harness trainer(and driver) got in major trouble for in Jersey? These 2 had quite a fine win % together(maybe 30-40%.) Those of us that live here know the top trainers are using stuff.Do you really think this lady called Susan Bump(who's horses most of us toss from consideration) is that bad with horses? She isn't.She just ain't cheating.

In my opinion it makes poly/cushion track to look like a very minor issue in handicapping.

Actually,I don't see it as being that important to bettors. The reason I say that is because most trainers that use stuff are doing it on a consistent basis(we call it 30% win % off the claim etc.)When it does become a huge issue for bettors is when a low % trainer wakes a horse up.That is when it is pretty much a grenade going off in a crowd.

Wow.

That is all I can say about the report. Really an eye-opener. Everyone knows that this crap is going on, but to that extent is a bit shocking.

And this is only the horses that have been caught. No telling how much has gone unnoticed.

Wow....
