Favorite Diner/Diner Meal

Just made and devoured an open-faced hot meat loaf sandwich... My own meat loaf, (ask Hooves & Ateam about my meatloaf..), on a sesame semolina slice with a brown mushroom gravy...

That prompts a thread-start...

1.) Your Favorite Diner or Luncheonette (must have a counter)... (I'll even allow Midwestern Tea Rooms as choices..) and..

2.) Your Favorite Eats therein..

I'll start with three...

FAMOUS LUNCH, TROY, NY: Miniature hot dogs in the "New York System" tradition with a Michigan style sauce. Hysterical joint in downtrodden downtown Troy. Since 1932

SWAN'S OYSTER DEPOT, SAN FRANCISCO (Polk & California): Unbelievable crab louis, oysters, shrimp, etc.. at the long counter.

PONZIO'S, CHERRY HILL, NJ: Between the NJ Tpke and Philly.. About as quintessential as it gets for diner.. Hot Turkey Sandwich, Brown Gravy (NOT yellow, thanks..)

as you well know I can't really eat that diner type food...
but if pressed The Parkway, near the airport for hot turkey sanwiches....
Libby's Blue line for breakfast...scrambled eggs etc
the Oasis...for politics only---do not eat the food.

and for Cheaters like me...Penny Cluse cafe (has a counter, therefore meets the criteria) and is organic/vegetarian...Gingerbread pancakes, and biscuits with herbed cream gravy

Turkey Club

Tomato and Onion omlette with rice---i don't like potatoes.

Green tea

Favorite Lunch: Philly, Pa. About 2-3 times a month i'll drive
a round 60 miles south to Pat's Steaks on Passyunk Ave in Philly

Melrose Diner, Philly, Pa.: A great all around diner.

Inner Harbour, Baltimore, Md.: Any place that serves good all steamed
crabs, messy as hell but worth it with your favorite brew

Gumbo Shop, New Orleans, La. Corn and Crawfish Chowder, Crawfish
Etouffee and Fresh Fish Creole

Rita's Italian Ice: Mango Italian Ice

best breakfast sammich I ever had was in Corning, NY, but that was almost 10 years ago and I cant remember the name of the joint to save my life.

and we don't have much in the way of "diners" here in the south.

You got Waffle House though, and that makes up for it... And if you don't know where to eat, get yourself to Savannah or Asheville or north of Charlotte on the road to Hickory (NC 17?) to Laura Rozelle's..

And I know the Melrose REAL well too.. 14 year season ticketholder at The Vet.. Sec. 729, Row 13, Seat 3.. Many a drunken weekend in Philthy..
