Good for racing!!!
Postive press and recognition of all the heart he showed both on and off the track and the pure class of the folks around him.
Of course Federer or Tiger will probably win it, but its nice for racing to have one in the running.

You are correct. Frank loves racing. I love when he talks about watching Secretariate's last race on the turf. Frank is a good reporter and writer.

The two men who are front runners for the top spot of the most prestigious award in sport are Tiger Woods and Roger Federer.

It is amazing how my wife transforms into Suzy Home Maker when her grandmother comes to visit. Her Grandmother is 100% old schools. She will say that women should not anchor news, drive or work. She says women working is the reason why we have so many troubles. I am always told to keep my mouth shut when she comes to visit. It is a riot.

On another note, I am very happy that Barbaro got nominated for this award.

Since its been an off year in the major sports for real dominant stars, the award will go to Tiger or Federer. I dont think Tiger played enough to win this. Federer won 1 more major tournament and lost what 5 matches all year? 3 of them to the #2 player in the world. Tiger has already won this, time for someone new. nobody has dominated a sport like Federer has this year.

Absolutely not one other person you can make a case for.

Giving the award to a horse who only competed 5 months is lunacy. Its a plea of sympathy, lets be real. Theres been plenty of horses who have won 2 legs of racing's triple crown recently who never got a sniff of a mention. Then again they didnt break down in a huge race.

Actually giving the award to any horse is lunacy for that matter. Its an animal for crying out loud. It has no choice in the matter.

i disagree. barbaro captured a world wide audience, and hasn't lost it since the injury occurred. he's shown sheer determination, amazing intelligence for a horse, as well as strength and courage in his battle to survive. he's quite the ambassador for this sport. i don't think it's a sympathy vote, quite the opposite. rather a reward for showing such resilience. it's really an incredible story. he's overcome huge odds. he was only given a 5% chance to live once the laminitis was detected. altho many gave up, he never did.

Your right Danzig and I cant really disagree with any of your thoughts. I love this horse and whats hes done for this game. Hes got a huge heart and is in your words a great ambassador to horse racing. Good post and I have changed my mind. It really was an incredible story, perhaps if it occured later in the year it would have been a more fresher on the mind of the sports world. But his story wont be forgotten ever.
