Monmouth - Breeders Cup 2007
 

I have never been to Monmouth but the place looks beauitful on tv. For those who have knowledge of the track, would it be possible for you to answer a couple of questions and add any other type of info.

1) - What is the weather like in late Oct/ealry Nov?
2) - I just read on Bloodhorse where they only have about 13,000 perm seats. They are going to rely on temp seating. So I guess they will need about 50,000 temp seats. Do you know where these seats might be located?
3) - What are the lodging options?

Gorgeous place to go in the summer. Nice track to walk around in, weather is great then, its onthe Jersey Shore. Plenty of restaurants and bars along the shore to have a few in and get something to eat.
BUt I can't see myself going to this BC. There will be nowhere near enough seating, and I'm trying to imagine the backup on the road going in and out and seeing a nightmare.
Weather in late October can be ok, but it can also be cold and windy.
I have this one on the "watch at home" list of things to do.

There are trains that go right to the track.

Speaking of the BC and locations, isn't it quite late to have not announced 2008's location yet?
Seems to me that usually by now we would long have been told where it was gonna be.
Seems to me that it hasn't been held in Florida since 1999, and its probably long overdue to be held there. Thats my guess anyway.

Watching at home. For you to miss a Breeders Cup that is relatively close to your home speaks volumes. The food and beverage was bad at Churchill, I wonder how Monmouth is going to handle the food and beverage. I would think they would need temp food stands. From TV, it just doesnt look big enough. But I could be wrong. Maybe this will be an event we decide to watch at home as well.

Trains from where. Certainly, a train doesnt go from Indy to Monmouth. I wonder how far we would have to stay in order to catch a train. And man, what a horrible ride that would be with a bunch of cold, drunk people.

I found the food and beverage at Cd to be outstanding.

It is about a 90% chance the BC will be held at Churchill again in 2008. Belmont is about 8% and another location is about 2%. The Breeders Cup crew was in Louisville about 10 days after BC 2006 to work out the details. However, Churchill is wanting a bigger revenue slice for which the BC is not wanting to give. So they are at a stalemate on that issue.

Of course I am interested.

From Saratoga you can take Amtrak to Penn Station, walk across the station to NJ Transit and pick up the train to Monmouth. The traffic can be unbearable at times so I'll be taking the train that day.

It's a beautiful place, and I have a good feeling they'll pull it off; as far as lodging goes, there isn't much in the immediate vicinity so I'd recommend staying in New Brunswick, about a 40 minute ride.

Really. We brought our own food, but I waited in line for 30 minutes for coke and hot chocolate. Maybe it was just my location.

I actually find rides with cold, drunk people to be highly entertaining.
If I were able to gurantee such a trip to Monmouth, I'd definitely go!!

This may be the first time anybody has ever recommended staying in New Brunswick.

Well, it's only a 22.5 hour train ride from Indy to NYC. From there, it's another hour or so. So if you leave Friday at noon you'll be there in time for the first post... have fun.

If Trenton is that bad, how do you rate Hoboken? Nothing in the world could be as bad as Hoboken. They ought to just a big fence around it and turn it into a federal prison. Most of the people you'd want locked up live there already anyway.

P.S. For those that have never taken the train between Philadelphia and NYC, there's a HUUUUUUUGE sign in Trenton (a bona fide dump) that says "Trenton Makes the World Takes"
