Showing Up Wins Hollywood Derby

Text book win with that long stride carrying him down the stretch.

randallscott35 11-26-2006 05:47 PM

He's a wonderful horse. Good for Tagg.

Revolution 11-26-2006 05:47 PM

I bet $20 on him but missed the race because I had to take my boss from my summer job to the airport. How many lengths did he win by?

My boss said he is going to take on Invasor in the Donn Handicap in his next race.

This may be a stupid question, but just who is your boss?

KirisClown 11-26-2006 05:51 PM

Very nice horse.. he has such a powerful burst when Velasquez asks him for his best...

sumitas 11-26-2006 05:54 PM

He won by about 3 lengths. Came of the turn 3 wide with a head of steam and just carried it all the way past the wire.

He owns a piece of a bunch of horses and has two horses that by the same sire as Showing Up. They just bought a horse that is from Brazil.

He says he met Steve Byk this summer at Saratoga when he went to pay off some bets we lost this summer for some hats and things (not my bets :p ). So he isn't invisible.

He owns a consulting company. I just put documents in a scanner for them all summer, but they do some type of legal consulting work.

They buy horses and sell them to make money.

Tagg has already said that he's giving Showing Up a few months off. He's not going to run again until the Spring.

Just a really neat horse to watch. Hes truly an example of heart. You watch his ears when he heads for home, its hilarious, talk about wanting to go and being happy. Didn't wanna be pulled up today, was mad at having to quit running.
Barclay Tagg showed us this year that those with balls to "just say no" to the Breeders Cup when it doesn't fit your horse get rewarded. Nobiz Like Showbiz and Showing Up were taken care of by this man, and he was rewarded with wins in the Remsen and Hollywood Derby that set up these two horses as big players in their divisions next year.
As Steve said on another thread, there IS LIFE after the Breeders Cup. Just ask Barclay Tagg!!!!

I think it makes a lot of sense to run Showing Up on the dirt...at least in the beginning of the year. He has already shown that he is at least VERY good on the dirt and I would assume a Grade 1 or two on the dirt would greatly enhance his value and stud potential. I would target the Met Mile, which is a perfect race for him, especially if Discreet Cat is not coming. The only problem with that is the Manhattan, a Grade 1 at 1 1/4 on the turf, is just a week away. However, winning that is only dollars, and wouldn't enhance his value, and I doubt these owners are overly concerned with earnings. The big turf races really don't start until the Arlington Million. Truthfully I think they would be very foolish to never try this horse on the dirt in a Grade 1...and Tagg is no fool.

I just love watching this horse run. At a time with few good horses he is genuinely a good horse. No hype. He just runs well every time.

I noticed the ear thing right after he crossed the finish line, as I said before - he is a muscular monster...it really stands out!

You see those ears when they turned for home? He was saying to Cornelio you better let me go now or I'll rip your arms off.
He wanted to go around again.

Andy, I had to respond to this. Showing Up has tried a Grade 1 on the dirt... :p I know you meant next year before the Arlington Million, but I felt like giving you shiat. :D

I don't think that is right. I was just at Belmont a few weeks ago and they said Showing Up probably will try the dirt and Funny Cide the turf. Pretty weird. The race was the Donn because it was only 9f. They were talking about Showing Up's form at 4 and saying something about Hurricane Run but I didn't really get it all.
