Decision announced today...

Well at least they won't have to worry about the cold weather issues that are plaguing Woodbine.

Del Mar chooses Polytrack

Del mar has chosen its surface and the winner is Polytrack.
Guess those speed biases at Del Mar just went the way of the dinosaur huh?

They should have chose Cushion, they could have used Hollywoods track, thell be ripping it out by seasons end

Do they know it it melts?

The California racetracks needed to do something. Too many horses were getting hurt and the racing was just too predictable.

Why would they want to find that out ahead of time? Pour the millions in and then find out if it actually melts. That seems to be norm in terms of considering long term ramifications of these surfaces.

maybe,
but theres always the option of just installing a safer dirt surface.
or I dont know, maybe not making a rush to judement and determining that synthetic surfaces were the cure all without proper testing over longer periods of time.

all Hollywood had to do was take a visit to another cdsn owned track named Calder Racecourse.
they are doing just fine down there in a warm weather environment with a conventional dirt surface.

instead, after failing miserably the year before with their installation of a new turf course(caused the cancellation of all turf racing in the 2005 Winter meet), they proceeded to fail miserably in the current year with the installation of a new synthetic main track surface.
I dont even want to think about what they are going to f*ck up in 2007.
there are only 2 courses for them to mess up.
maybe they will decide to rebuild the grandstand out of straw and mud next year.
then when it blows over and they have to cancel the 2007 Summer meet, they can blame it on a study they did that found that the safest building construction materials for human racetrack wagerers was mud and straw.

California race traces have been unpredictable because the track maintenance crew is alway screwing with it. I would guess that they have not used the same plan to maintain the surface for more than 2 week at a time.

We have witnessed this with Cushion track at Hollywood. Old habits are hard to break.

Hollywood parks Turf course failed under the ownership of Chruchill downs due to thier do nothing to the facilities if we can't have slots.

Hollywood parks new owners have replaced both track surfaces because the former owners let it go the hell. Let's get this one right Chruchill Downs Management let Hollywood run down and the new owners are playing catch up and doing a very good job.

thats just totally false.
new ownership installed a new main track that is unusable most days of the week.
how is that a good job?

I once rooted for Hollypark to get that "swing week" that they battle Santa Anita for.
now, I hope they get their dates reduced.
its terrible.
they should tear the damn thing down just like they had planned.

right about what?
new ownership has done nothing right except provide an example for other CA tracks of what NOT to do when installing a new surface.

maybe the others will learn from their mistakes.
I doubt it though.

Some people seek the truth and some have to be right. It's all really just blah, blah, blah, and it doesn't matter.
Hollywood making huge mistakes? I personnally have enjoyed the racing on Cushion track.
