Do you remember Peekskill?

Any of you remember this horse?
I volunteer at a rescue here in Minnesota, and guess who showed up recently at the main rescue?Good old Peekskill. He has a suspensory ligament strain on his right front leg,and is recovering.I will have more info for you all as I find it out.

thanks for the info...you know when he last ran? haven't heard that name for a while.

The last time I saw him run was about two years ago.He ran at Canterbury for the tag, then he ran at Turf Paradise after that.He was in some two bit trainer's barn, and they had him run on the grass and he finished last.I am waiting to hear more on how he ended up in the rescue program.I should know more tommorow and I will post it here.

it's not the money to buy it's the money to MAINTAIN...esp. the off the track type...issues you know.

There's one out at our barn right now that I want in the worst way... it's a shame it costs so much money to keep them down here. :(

That looks like a nice organization.

I was a little shocked at the amount of former track horses I recognized. What do most of these owners do,just dump them off somewhere to get rid of them when they don't want them anymore?I know not all owners are like that.

it's the unfortunate byproduct of the industry that also-rans (and good horses too) often find themselves without a place to go @ the end of there careers.

LOL:D

I wish......I will say that when I was about 10 years old, someone broke into my house and stole a bunch of stuff, jewelry, vcr, tv.... I came home from school and I had a piggy bank and little velcro wallet. You could tell this was a little kids room. The guy took the money out of the piggy bank, and the one 5 dollar bill I had in my wallet...I genuinely hope someone that would rob a little kid should find his way into the grave as fast as humanly possible.

I realize I just buzz killed this thread with this post. Ha ha, not my intention.

3rd in the Florida Derby and Lone Star Derby in '02...you'd think they could have set aside $5k or $10k for his retirement.

Snowdens contacted

Just off the phone with Peekskill's breeder/principal owner(s), Dede Snowden.. She and husband Guy had been keeping tabs on Peekskill as a runner but lost track of him after his final start.

She and her daughter have many retired horses on their CT farm, quarters and shows as well as thoroughbreds, and she will contact MN Hooved Animal Rescue to see what she can do to help with Peekskill's retirement or possible training as a show horse.

Thanks to Kimme for bringing the situation to the fore and the MN H.A.R. people for their work...
