Don't we see that all of the time? The best betting races are very often not the stakes races. Owners and trainers of stakes level horses must see more money from post career breeding and plot a path to reach that goal by not running in races where they are likely to lose. So they run less frequently. Owners of claiming horses have to run them as much as possible to pay the bills and that leads to fuller fields.

Looks like it's happening in the Preakness too. Field down to 10. Which I guess isn't too bad, if they actually make it to the gate. All 3 of Brad Cox runners out. Now all 3 of the horses that finished closest to Medina Spirit in the Derby are out.

Do we know about Medina Spirit? He should be the fav for sure and the smaller field will be to his liking. I don't see him going to the Belmont even if he wins this one.

So far the signals from the Baffert camp have been positive. Medina Spirit is still in Louisville along with Concert Tour. I think that CT will work on Sunday after which final decisions will be made. It seems likely that both could run. To me it would be a close call as to which one might be the favorite.

Entries will be drawn on Monday. There will probably be a number of additions and defections between now and then, including the ML fav in the Peter Pan who could be one of two Chad Brown entrants.

Getting picks in early as tomorrow morning I'm scheduled for my second dose of the vax. God help me. I was reluctant to get it in the first place but sooner or later, I guess we'll all get it, or most of us. Praying that my second dose doesn't debilitate me as I've read from so many people. I've had some severe medical issues the last 6-9 months, I just am too tired to deal with anymore crap. Fingers crossed!
