Venue Thoughts for March 6

It looks to me as if the best card for our contest this Saturday will be at Santa Anita for "Big Cap" day. While the feature race will be the Santa Anita Handicap [with the undefeated Maxfield], the card also includes the Kilroe Mile, the San Carlos and the San Felipe with its Derby qualifying points and the highly regarded Life Is Good. My thought is to play races 1 through 10.

Will post more later

Ruff, thanks for your suggestion but I think that this time we will stay at just one track. The "all stakes" concept can be wonderful on days like April 3 when the Wood, Carter, Blue Grass, Ashland, SA Oaks and SA Derby are all on the same afternoon. But on other days I sort of prefer the flow of a single race card. To me it can be just as enjoyable to assess the ways in which the runners of a "non winners of one other than ..." fit the conditions of that race as to handicap a graded stakes. Sometimes those lower level horses put on a wonderful show. Besides, it is just as possible to cash a winning ticket in a claiming race as a handicap.

If you are looking for other good races to watch on Saturday don't ignore Tampa Bay. Their card looks very strong also.

Perhaps that is one reason why this game is so great. It can suit players with many different tastes and levels of interest.

QUESTION

DOES TAMPA BAY DERBY :tro:
INCLUDE POINTS TOWARDS KENTUCKY DERBY

*** Would You Consider GOTHAM (Ky Derby Points ) As Bonus ***

Yes, the Tampa Bay Derby has the same Derby qualifying points as the Gotham or the San Felipe. I think it is 50, 20, 10 and 5.

No we are not including the Gotham in our contest for all of the reasons stated above. Frankly I think the Tampa Bay Derby is a much more interesting race to handicap and will have more impact as a Derby prep. But you can still watch it and enjoy it even though it is not part of our contest.
